A Swimming Playdate

After my last swimming experience with Carter, we were prepared. Not pictured is the inner tube float I also put him inside of once he was in the water. In case you are wondering arm floaties, a lifejacket, and an inner tube is too much float for a 23 lb boy.
Some of the kids are ready to go.

Last Day of "Pink Church"

I am so, so, so, SO sad to report that last Thursday was the last day of the Mommy Time program at the beloved "pink church," otherwise known as First Pres. It was such a wonderful place for the kids to learn and play and such a blissful three and a half hours for me. I will also miss the sweet little faces of the other kids in the class.

Can I Lick the Spoon?

Happy Birthday Papa!

We celebrated Papa's (Dean's) 51st birthday on Saturday. Abigail was especially excited to sweet talk the women in the family to play HiHo Cherry-O with her. I could die happily without ever playing that game again.

Look at Me

Abigail is now very interested in the photo albums of her first year and loves to look at them. Some concepts are hard for her to understand (like pictures of certain toys she still has or no brother) but she loves it nonetheless.

My First Hairbows!

I am so very excited to report that I have learned how to make hairbows for Abbie! No more VERY expensive bows from my bow lady- HOORAY! I am hoping to perfect the technique and branch out a bit. For now, a new hobby for me!

A BAD Morning

This morning has been one of those mornings that all mothers of small children know all too well and hope that they never have another one again at the same time. It all started with an early morning phone call from DJ saying he was on a call out and did not know when he would be coming home. His last words last night were that he would be home right after work to help me with the teething monster that is Carter. Feeling bad that Carter always gets left out of the fun stuff (for a reason) I decided to let him help with the blueberry muffins, figuring he couldn't possibly make that big of a mess with a little spoon with leftover batter on it...
After that disaster was contained, I selfishly decided that I needed to take a shower after a couple of days without one. I shut all the doors in the house to keep Carter from getting into too much mischief. As I stepped out of the shower I was greeted by Abigail who sadly said "I made a big mess. I'm sorry." Not too alarmed since it was Abbie admitting this, we headed out to assess the damage. Much to my surprise, Abbie had reached the box of cereal on the counter, spilled it, and left her brother to make teeny, tiny crumbs all over the kitchen and living room. I laughed, cleaned it up and went out for the morning paper. I stepped out the door and was charged at by the neighbors dog for the second time in three days. I came in for my pepper spray and went back out to get my revenge on the dog. I got rid of the dog, came inside and smelled the familiar smell of what I thought was a poopy diaper. I scooped Carter up and went into his room where I discovered, hands down, the most terrible, disgusting thing Carter has ever done....

I debated posting this because it is SO bad, but it was the only way to describe how bad it really has been and this picture does not show the whole extent of the tragedy. I was furious and horrified and the same time. I scrubbed and scrubbed that child while he screamed bloody murder and Abbie ran around exclaiming that she was sorry. All of this by 9:30 am. I think we all need to go back to bed and start all over...

His Name is Mud...

While Abigail sweetly watered my flowers for me, Carter discovered a mud puddle left behind and had himself quite a lovely time. So much for swimming today...

The "Big Pool"

Abbie the ever so cautious was concerned that her floaties were too tight and decided that the "big pool" was scary.
Carter, the anything but cautious, thought the whole thing was great and loved to jump off the step into the water and make me an overall nervous wreck.

Picnic at the Park

We have been eagerly taking advantage of any cool weather and DJ's days off that we can get. We went to Riverwalk park for a picnic last Tuesday. Carter stopped by to eat for a few minutes, but spent the rest of the hour and a half playing in the sand. He never climbed a stair, slid down a slide, or relaxed in a swing. Sand- the whole time, and was still upset when we left.

Thank Heaven for Little Girls

As we can all see, Abbie loves to dress herself. Luckily, she loves going places so much that I can tell her that Mommy gets to pick out her clothes when we are going out in public and she goes for it! My personal favorite are Carter's beige socks she has on with her black shoes.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Birthday Jaden & Baylee

Welcome to birthday madness, beginning last weekend. We were invited to help Jaden & Baylee's (Jenny's kids) birthdays on Saturday at Valley Feed. It was such a neat place to have a party. I love all the birthdays in May, June & July because it is a great excuse to see my favorite people but it is going to be quite a feat this year!

Happy 30th Birthday!

Lots of kids came over to play
Abbie is SO excited to hold baby Loki

I delight in teasing DJ by lighting 30 candles on his peanut butter ice cream cake, even though it was a lot of work to push 30 candles through a frozen cake!

Abbie has nothing but cake on the brain- apparently DJ was excited too

With Abbie's help, all the candles go out in one breath

DJ's Surprise Present

DJ's parents bought DJ a very nice floor safe for his 30th birthday as a surprise for him. I knew about it about a week before its delivery, but had to keep it a secret for the sake of the surprise. He must have been relieved to arrive home to find a wonderful present since the only info I was able to give him was that he needed to be home from work by 10am and that there would be people waiting for him. He has been wanting to buy one for years and it just hasn't been a possibility so he was thrilled. He was totally surprised and still can't believe that he actually owns one now. Of course, I am relieved that we can make sure all his stuff and our vital records (and photo CD's!) can be safely locked away.

Carter's Hangout

Carter's new favorite place is inside the pots and pans cupboard. Now if he is missing, this is the place to check. It is certainly the safest hiding spot he has chosen thus far!
